WRITE A LETTER TO FUEL AMERICA

With heating oil prices still soaring, it could cost as much as $4,000 this winter to stay warm. Yet fuel assistance benefits remain inadequate, reaching only one in five eligible recipients while soaring energy costs now swallow up 20% of the budget of our poorest families. We can and must do better. 

This past summer, when the price of oil approached $150 a barrel, I wrote a letter to Members of Congress, urging them to find the resources to help keep our fellow neighbors safe, healthy, and warm.  You can read that letter in full below or by clicking here.

I ask you to do the same. Please hand-write your Members of Congress today asking them to provide the full funding of $5.1 billion for LIHEAP and encourage your state leaders to provide supplemental energy assistance funding.

Our government must make it a priority to fully funding LIHEAP.  By sending a hand-written note to your Members of Congress, we can help to make sure that energy security becomes a priority, and in doing so, make sure that our most vulnerable citizens do not go cold this winter.
